Augmented Reality: The next step by Apple

Apple service centre
Competition in the digital tech and personal electronics space has been heating up in the last five years. The old iPhone v/s Android debate has been left by the wayside – today, it’s a race to the finish line as companies invest heavily in new R&D. But here, too, Apple seems to be winning the race at the moment – because it is not invested in the small stuff. In fact, after driverless cars and streaming television, Apple is working on Augmented Reality (AR).

In a nutshell, AR overlays games, videos and images in the real world – sort of like the virtual reality Pikachu craze that gripped the world in 2016. But Apple envisions AR on a much grander level, while making it an indelible part of our lives. CEO Tim Cook believes that Apple can take AR to a level where it becomes as normal for users as eating three meals a day.

To this end, Apple is rumoured to have assembled a team comprising the best talents in hardware and software, and the bright sparks that have previously worked on the HoloLens and Oculus virtual reality headsets. The company has also acquired a few firms that specialise in 3D gaming and virtual reality software.

So it seems like big things will happen at Apple in the coming days – but this could also be because AR is a phenomenon that might eventually replace our smartphones, opine forecasters. Apple is well aware that in the next decade, AR hardware could replace most of its product suite, starting with the iPhone. But technical expertise on how to build small and sturdy products is on the company’s side. The current AR hardware is either flimsily built or too bulky for regular use. So Apple has a window of opportunity for creating slim, powerful AR hardware (such as AR glasses). It is a distinct possibility that you could head to the Apple service centre to get your iPhone and AR glasses looked at and synced!

Another way that Apple can skip past competition in this space is by offering syncing between its AR hardware and the iPhones or iPads, for example. This functionality is already in use with the iWatch. The most obvious AR hardware that Apple is currently developing – but which the company has denied thus far – is AR glasses which can sync with the iPhones. However, the AR glasses would come with its own tech, a higher battery life and a range of exciting new apps and games that will keep users interested.

If any company can pull off a combination of developing wearable tech that actually works, social and payments, it is Apple. It remains to be seen how deep this project goes, and to what extent AR gets included in Apple’s product suite in the days to come.

Get on board with the latest in earrings, watches, necklaces and bracelets – it’s time to get your chic game on!

Looking good is on every woman’s list, but not every woman is able to look chic, effortlessly. The trick is to complement the dress with the accessory without making it look like you’re not trying to look good. It’s not everyone who wakes up looking good but, it surely is in dressing how you look for the rest of the day.

But effortless dressing takes a lot of effort – and you must be abreast of the current trends on the biggest runways of the world. And yet, you don’t need a designer to tog you up. Looking your best is all about introducing a pop of colour, a surprising accessory there and it’s all down to knowing what looks great with your outfit.

We help you out with 4 ideas to make your ensemble come alive:

1 Watch it!

Nothing spells elegance like a lovely timepiece, and it doesn’t need to be an expensive one that costs you both kidneys and an arm. You can pick the best wrist watches that are crafted with precision and styled with panache, and which make you stand out in the crowd. The trend this year is heavily accented towards unisex watches – these are watches with coloured belts and dials with designs on them. Wear a trendy wrist watch with your staid office outfit and see the difference it makes to your look!

2 Earring in the new!

The new style in earrings is danglers, with an ethnic twist. Think bridal-style earrings, or gems in an intricate setting, or materials like glass, wood or steel. Earrings are in for a major overhaul this year, with big bold designs ruling the runways. The best part is, you can wear them over casual wear too and add a stylish twist to your overall ensemble. So go ahead, team them with your denim-on-denim ensemble, or that office pantsuit to tell the world that your ears are having a party!

3 Neck and neck

Neckpieces are back, and how! They are large, bold and they demand attention. Put away your demure chains for a while, and invest in chunky neckpieces that redefine your entire ensemble. Currently, floral sets and heavy wooden pendants are in. Also in vogue are traditional and ethnic pieces in different colours and materials, and bejewelled chokers are back, too.

4 Brace for style

Bracelets are always classy, but bangles are currently more in style. But don’t go running away with the idea of thin metal bangles – the pieces currently in vogue are made of treated leather, wood, fibre and even sterling silver. Standout styles include designs like traceries, geometric patterns and floral motifs.

The new MacBook 2017: Everything you need to know

When is the new MacBook 2017 coming out, and what will be different about it? Let’s find out.

In 2015, Apple launched a 12-in MacBook that was quite well received. A year later, it launched an upgraded version towards the end of 2016, but without significant changes as compared to the previous one. This year, chances are high that the new MacBook 2017 will be launched, albeit without any fanfare. However, this news has got Apple users tremendously excited – especially since the MacBook is a seriously cool device.

As usual, Apple remains extremely tight lipped about what the new MacBook 2017 will be like, and even if it will be released this year. Rumours are rife about tech and design upgrades in the new version. Here’s the new MacBook 2017 rumour mill so far:

It is set to replace the Air line of laptops. After launching the 12-inch MacBook in 2015, Apple discontinued the 11-inch variant. Thereafter, there have been no upgrades in the MacBook Air line-up, suggesting to many that this line of laptops is on the way out and the 12-inch MacBook 2017 will be its new replacement.

It may come at a reduced price. If Apple’s history is to be believed, it has a penchant for replacing older models with new ones, and then reducing the price of the new version. If the MacBook Air series is indeed phasing out, then the MacBook 2017 may be priced lower than before.

It goes into production in April. The 12-inch MacBook will go into production in the US this month, and it is expected to hit the stores in America latest by the end of July 2017. The laptop will reach the rest of the world in phases, thereafter.

It will have new processors: The new MacBook 2017 is pegged to have Intel’s advanced Kaby Lake processor. Meanwhile, another rumour goes that Apple is developing a T310 superchip that will enhance battery life significantly. Apple may also introduce the ARM chip (which features in the MacBook Pro Touch Bar) for more diverse functions in the MacBook 2017.

You can ask the nearest Apple store in Delhi about the impending MacBook 2017 launch. Once it launches, you can pre-book the model at the Apple store in Delhi and other places, or hook up with an Apple authorised service center for details on how you may upgrade your current MacBook Pro to suit the rumoured specs of the new MacBook 2017.

5 things you didn’t know about the iPhone 7

iOS 10 allows some easy adjustments so that you can use your iPhone 7 to its highest potential. We present 5 hacks to use your phone better.

The iPhone 7 was received with great excitement last year, though the initial phase was also marred by a few tech glitches. These have been sorted out since, and like other Apple products, the iPhone 7 continues to delight legions of Apple fans all over the world.

But there are some hacks to know if you want to make using the iPhone 7 an easy experience, such as:
  1. Remove default apps. We don’t need all the apps on the iPhone, and they take up a lot of space on the phone. The iPhone 7 lets you remove unwanted default apps – press and hold down the app. It will ‘shake’ at this point. Now tap the ‘X’ that appears in the top right corner to remove the app. If you want the app back, just go to the App store to get it.
  2. Clear all notifications with a single tap. There was a time when you had to plod through your Notifications to remove them one by one. But with iOS 10, you can delete the entire day’s notifications at once. If your phone has 3D Touch, you can clear all notifications in one swipe by pressing down the X on any notification for some time.
  3. Enable automatic display turn on. Your iPhone 7’s display gets activated if you just pick your phone. To enable this feature, go to Settings and choose Display & Brightness. Now slide your finger to activate ‘Raise to Wake’. Once you select this option, your display will light up every time you pick up the phone – no need to press any buttons if you want to check the time or go to Notifications.
  4. Turn off ‘Read’ messages for certain people. It is annoying when your text message centre shows a list of people who have read the texts you sent them. With iPhone 7, you can turn off the ‘Message read’ feature for specific people. Go to the iMessage thread and tap the ‘I’ button on the right. Now scroll down and slide to disable choosing ‘Send Read Receipts’ for that specific contact only.
  5. Add message effects. Long press the ˄ arrow, then choose between these options: Slam, Loud, Gentle or Invisible Ink. These options help you customise the message ‘bubble’ on the screen. If you want to view the iMessage effects, you must turn off ‘Reduce Motion’. Also, the effects you send will be visible only to other iOS 10 users.
We hope you’ve bought your iPhone 7 from an authorised Apple store in Delhi. And that you will approach the iPhone service center in Delhi for any help regarding your iPhone 7. An Apple store can guide you on using your phone to its best ability.

Detailed Review

The HP LaserJet 1020 Plus comes with a processor of 234MHz, which should provide you decent performance. However, 2MB of on-board memory can be an area of concern if you are a very frequent user. However, it is enough to get most everyday tasks done in high quality.

The fact that it is a monochrome printer makes it very compact, since it needs to fit in only one toner cartridge. The recommended monthly cycle for both letter and A4 sizes is up to 4,000 pages, which makes it more suitable for basic home and office use.

In terms of speed, it can generate up to 14 copies per minute, which is quite good too. The emission pressure generated by the HP LaserJet 1020 Plus printer is only 49 decibels, making it almost noise-free. There is a USB port that claims to have a response time of 10 seconds, ticking another box for efficiency. The device comes with a one-year warranty as well.

It is certainly not the best printer in the world but it definitely gives you more than what you pay for. A perfect fit for basic tasks, it is a perfect value-for-money product.

Why it’s always an Apple a day for me…

Shaurya Kamath, an Apple user, recounts her fascination and love for all things Apple.

“I was in college when my portable CD player fell down from my study table top and shattered. To say that I was more shattered than my player would be an understatement – I burst into tears and was inconsolable for days. I have always been a music buff – music is my drug. I need it while I work, when I go for a run, when I cook for my family…suddenly bereft of music, I was lost,” recounts Shaurya Kamath*, an investment banker.

A neighbour had recently bought an iPod and she recommended that Shaurya try it too. “I had seen the little blue iPod she had, and I always wondered – what a tiny little thing it is! I didn’t think it could play much music. But when I tried it, I was blown away by the sound quality! It held up to 250 music tracks and it sufficed for all my needs.”

She quickly gathered more information on the product – in those days, the iPod mini was more in vogue than other music players. “That was my first introduction to Apple products,” Shaurya recounts. “I still use that iPod, though it has been years now since I bought it. There has been no lag in its performance and it is just like new,” she beams.

Three years ago, she was deputed to Mumbai for a brief while and was asked her choice for a working laptop. “I quickly chose the MacBook – everyone has been raving about it but I never thought of buying it for myself. When I started using it, I realised what the fuss was about – and what I had been missing all along. I even bought a MacBook for my personal use at home, and I carry it with me wherever I go. It is simply flawless – just like the iPod, it has never given me any trouble. I only took it to a premium Apple store last year when I wondered if I should get an update to my OS, but the engineer there advised me against it because the device was working so well already,” she remembers.

And despite the backlash it received last year, Shaurya was amongst the first to buy the iPhone 7. “Just three months before, I had bought the Apple smartwatch. I now have all the Apple products I need!” she grins. When asked if she didn’t think twice about buying the iPhone 7 after initial bad reviews and many lacunae in design, she retorts, “What is there to think about? It’s still an Apple   product. I trust the Apple premium stores to sort out any performance issues.” She says that her iPhone 7 has been performing “exceptionally well” and it has many improvements in both looks and performance factors. “I am in awe of the iPhone camera – it just gets better and better with each phone!” she exclaims.

She says is now excitedly looking forward to the launch of the iPhone 8 this year. “I have been reading up on its rumoured tech enhancements, and I am eagerly waiting to get my hands on the phone,” she claims. Remind her of the hefty price tag that comes with each iPhone, and she says, “That Apple products are expensive is a misconception. Everyone is fixated on the price aspect – but think about what the price entails. You get cutting edge technology, the most sophisticated hardware and absolutely no performance issues. I have never heard of any Apple user having to replace the product after just two years of use. Other brands do not perform so well.

“Plus, there is a global community of Apple users that is always on hand to support and help each other if anybody has a question. And if there is a big technical problem that only an expert can solve, the authorised Apple service centre looks over the issues and advises what to do. I feel that every Apple user is in safe hands even after buying the product, so why look at another brand at all?” she reasons.
She surmises that using an Apple product is not just about handling a certain gadget – it becomes a way of life. “I am used to Apple’s sophisticated technology and I am not very impressed with Android devices,” she says. “I will always be an Apple fangirl.”

Demonetisation? No problem, buy your new air cooler online

You can book and purchase a new air cooler online without spending a single Rupee of cash. Plus, you get rewarded for doing so!

Air coolers and air conditioners have become a necessity in most homes and offices today. While many places prefer to install air conditioners, some places with moderate to mild climate can make do with air coolers.

In fact, air coolers sometimes work out to be a better proposition for buyers. They consume less power than ACs, and this results in lower electricity bills. Unlike air conditioners which require a separate plug point and power supply, an air cooler can simply be plugged into a 240V socket like other appliances. Plus, most air coolers are portable and can be moved from one spot in the house to another – unlike an AC, which is fixed forever.

Air coolers also cost much less than air conditioners, and are available in small and large sizes. They are excellent for use at home and inside small office spaces.

But are you hesitating to buy an air cooler?

The recent move by the Government to demonetise currencies of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 has resulted in quite a bit of financial chaos for many people. With shops and commercial establishments refusing to accept the demonetised currencies, people who are used to making large purchases in cash are in quite a fix. At the same time, people are holding on to the cash they currently possess because the relative scarcity has not yet resolved itself.

But demonetisation need not stop you from buying a new air cooler. Simply go cashless! You can buy an air cooler with online shopping in India, and you don’t need to spend a single Rupee in cash either. Just log on to a reputed electronics site like #EzoneOnline and browse for the latest air cooler brands and models.

Browse for information, look up the newest models, compare prices and specs and proceed to make your selection. Now all you have to do is pay for the chosen air cooler using your debit/credit card or Internet banking. The e-tailer gives all the information about the chosen product, vis-à-vis product features, specifications, add-ons, performance indicators and price. Plus, electronics stores like #EzoneOnline also reward customers for online purchases with cash back or discounts on each purchase. Once the payment is processed, the air cooler is delivered to your doorstep and installed, if necessary.

So why let demonetisation derail you? Go online and buy a brand new air cooler today!
